2019 Addy Awards Show Recap

That’s a wrap, everyone… the 2019 American Advertising Awards Show has officially concluded!

The competition drew 84 print, digital and multi-media advertising projects created by area advertising professionals and businesses between January 1 and December 31, 2018. It also featured an additional 30 entries from Southeast Missouri State University students.

In total, 114 projects vied for Gold, Silver and Bronze ADDY awards. Best of Show awards were given in each of four main categories:

  • Print Division: Red Letter Communications for its magazine ad “STIHL Lightning Single Charge”
  • Interactive Division: Element 74 for its consumer website “Farrow Lumber”
  • Digital Division: Creative Edge for its film and video editing of “Dedication to Service”
  • Student Competition: SE Creative for its poster campaign for the Faultline Film Festival.

The Cape Girardeau Chapter of AAF also honored Jim Dufek, professor of TV & Film at Southeast Missouri State University, with its Silver Medal Award. The award recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility of social concern.

In addition to being a popular figure in Southeast’s Department of Mass Media, Dufek has been a frequent presenter at industry conferences and contributed production expertise to multiple broadcast projects, such as “Off the Grid,” “Interview with a Monster,” and “Missouri Veterans Project.” In his role as TV & Film operations manager at Southeast Missouri State, he provides students with hands-on opportunities in the Rust Center for Media, Rose Theatre, SETV, Cape Chronicle and Redhawks Update. He also serves as co-director of the annual Faultline Film Festival, which attracts national attention.

Projects that earn a gold award in the ADDY competition are eligible to compete in the District 9 American Advertising Awards Competition. Judging at the district level will be done in March and includes entries from Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska. Winners at the district level will advance to the national ADDY Awards, the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition recognizing creative excellence.
